A documentary research that used as a source of data collection Theses and Dissertations, available on the Bank Thesis and Dissertations of the Center for Studies and Research in Nursing of the Brazilian Nursing Association. The research was possible through the use of the descriptors: illicit drugs; and illegal drugs. This research was aimed at analyzing the production of Theses and Dissertations developed by Nursing on illicit drugs in Brazil in the period of 2000-2010. The results showed increased production of Dissertations with a qualitative approach and an uneven distribution among the country, being the Southeast, where more researches on the subject. In this study emerged five axes: meanings and experiences of users of illicit drugs; treatment and recovery assistance; vulnerability and AIDS; prevention and harm reduction; and the epidemiological profile of the user of illicit drugs. We conclude that further studies on the subject are needed in order to provide routing and scientific evidence to establish relationships of care and attention to illicit drug user.
