The performance of nurses of hospital pediatric units in health education

The health education is an important strategy used by nursing to take care of children and families, and it is characterized as an essential management competency. In hospitals, nurses must promote this education in order to reach effective and efficient results of assistance process. Thus, this article explored how pediatric nurses perform the development of health education strategies in their patients and families, and identifies how they are prepared to do this. The data were collected in 2007, when 38 nurses of hospital pediatric units were submitted to a questionnaire about personal information and investigative questions related to this subject. The results shown that the health education activities are being used by the pediatric nurses, however without planning, with low adjustable techniques, and without the suitable registers. Furthermore, it follows that pediatric nurses know about the importance of this activity that is being developed in children and families. Besides, it was highlighted that they wanted to be better qualified and receive the correct investment of their institutions.
