Newly hired nursing workers in a teaching hospital
direct costs of training and non-productivity

Objective: To measure the direct costs of training and non-productivity of newly admitted nursing professionals in a school hospital. Method: Quantitative, exploratory-descriptive research and single case study. The data were obtained during the 30, 60 and 90 days of experience of each newly admitted using instruments to measure non-productivity built according to the specificities of the newly admitted allocation units. The calculation of costs per professional was composed of the training time and the non-productivity of the newly admitted. Results: Sixty-eight hires were made, being 36 nursing auxiliaries, 27 nursing technicians and five nurses. The direct cost of training and non-productivity, during the trial period, was R$160,981.36, being 55.75% related to training and 44.25% to non-productivity. Conclusion: The obtained results contribute to the verticalization of the knowledge on the measurement of the direct costs of the trainings and the non-productivity.
